Bradley International Airport has become the first U.S. airport to install an OnMed CareStation, a virtual medical kiosk offering travelers immediate access to healthcare services. Located behind security in Terminal A, the CareStation is a result of a partnership between Hartford HealthCare and telemedicine company OnMed, according to a Fox 61 report.
The CareStation provides virtual consultations with medical professionals through a 65-inch screen. It is equipped with diagnostic equipment that emerges from the unit, allowing patients to self-administer basic medical tests under the guidance of a physician or clinician. Patients can connect with either OnMed specialists or Hartford HealthCare clinicians during their virtual visits.
«This is a tremendous innovation,» Jeff Flaks, CEO of Hartford HealthCare, told the news outlet. «Bringing in an OnMed CareStation in the airport is an opportunity to help people who are traveling, coming or going.»
Dr. Padmanabhan Premkumar, senior vice president at Hartford HealthCare, emphasized that this technology addresses the increased demand for virtual healthcare services, a trend that has accelerated since the COVID-19 pandemic. The service is available to all travelers, regardless of whether they are Hartford HealthCare patients.
Currently, two other OnMed CareStations operate in Connecticut (one in Hartford and another in Killingly), but the airport location is anticipated to be the busiest due to the high volume of daily travelers.
