The North Carolina Administrative Office of the Courts will install eCourts kiosks in courthouses across eight counties beginning in June, according to a WECT 6 report. The initiative is designed to improve public access to the state’s court system.

The self-service kiosks will allow citizens to search for court dates and case information, file documents electronically and make payments. They will provide access to key eCourts applications, including the search portal, the «File & Serve» e-filing system and «Guide & File,» which assists users in creating common legal filings.

«These kiosks are the next step in ensuring robust public access to the court system,» Ryan S. Boyce, NCAOC director, told the news outlet. «For those without internet access, kiosks are a convenient way to access the court system and take advantage of the tools that eCourts provide.»

According to the NCAOC, the project aims to standardize court processes, integrate with public safety systems and reduce wait times at customer service counters.

The kiosks will be available in courthouses in Alamance, Cabarrus, Cumberland, Durham, Guilford, New Hanover, Onslow and Union counties.
