ChargePoint, a leading EV charging provider, has developed two solutions to combat charger vandalism, according to a press release. The company has developed a cut-resistant charging cable designed to deter theft. This cable, incorporating specialized materials, will be available for all ChargePoint commercial and fleet chargers and offered for licensing to other manufacturers.
Additionally, ChargePoint has launched «ChargePoint Protect,» an alarm system that utilizes existing charger components to detect and deter cable tampering. This system can be activated on select models via a software update and provides real-time alerts to station owners.
«ChargePoint Protect and our cut-resistant cables demonstrate our relentless dedication to offering a dependable charging network. We do not view ourselves as victims of vandalism, but rather responsible for solving it, not only for our customers but for the industry,» Rick Wilmer, CEO of ChargePoint, said in the release. «We are sharing the technology to combat vandalism in the most aggressive way possible with the aim to eliminate charger reliability as a hinderance to EV adoption.»
