Starting this year, Wisconsin has implemented an excise tax on electricity used to charge electric vehicles at public charging stations, according to a Seehafer News report. The tax, set at three cents per kilowatt-hour, will be collected by the Wisconsin Department of Revenue.
The legislation also requires owners and operators of public EV charging stations to register their stations with the state; however, the tax does not apply to residential EV chargers.
Revenue generated from this tax will be used to fund road maintenance projects across the state.
