Delaware rolls out harm reduction vending machines

Delaware is taking a novel approach to combatting the opioid epidemic by installing harm reduction vending machines across the state, according to a WHYY PBS report.

The machines, located at various sites including Brandywine Counseling locations and the Georgetown Pallet Village, offer free 24/7 access to resources such as naloxone, safe sex kits and wound care supplies.

«Many times, individuals have fear or stigma,» Lt. Gov. Bethany Hall Long told the news outlet. «So we want a 24/7 judgment-free zone where individuals can access critical and often life-saving kits.»

The initiative, a partnership between the Department of Health and Social Services and Brandywine Counseling and Community Services, aims to reduce overdose deaths and provide support to those struggling with addiction. By offering these resources discreetly and without judgment, the machines hope to encourage individuals to seek help and prioritize their health.
