Residents of Horry County, South Carolina will be able to check out and drop off books at a vending machine that will be installed at a to-be-determined location, according to a wtbw.com report. The goal is to limit human interaction.
Patrons will be able to request items to be sent to the machine and will be able to drop off items there as well.
To pick up books, a user will scan their library card to open the door and allow them to choose their books. The door will then close, and the machine will then scan items left to determine what was taken, then print a receipt. The machine will hold 300 items.
The Horry County Memorial Library System received a $30,000 grant for the machine, including delivery and installation.
