The Robert J. Delonis Center in Ann Arbor, Michigan, has installed a blood pressure kiosk, funded by the American Heart Association, to offer free blood pressure monitoring and connect individuals with clinical care, according to a press release. The grand opening of the blood pressure hub took place on Tuesday, July 1, 2025.

The initiative aims to address the widespread issue of high blood pressure, often referred to as the «silent killer» due to its lack of symptoms until serious health complications arise. The kiosk will serve both residents of the Delonis Center and the broader community, providing an accessible way to check blood pressure, access educational materials and connect with healthcare providers.

«I am so excited that we have the blood pressure kiosk,» Shanika Johnson, a housing case manager at the Robert J. Delonis Center, said in the release. «I think it is great and beneficial to our population. They may need to step in and check to make sure their pressure is good, so they can go over to the clinic and say ‘Hey, I checked myself on the machine and it’s too high’ or whatever the case may be.»

The Delonis Center, operated by the Shelter Association of Washtenaw County, provides shelter for approximately 215 people nightly and serves over 1,100 individuals annually. This collaboration between the American Heart Association and the Delonis Center emphasizes their shared commitment to improving access to vital health resources for all residents. High blood pressure is a significant controllable risk factor for heart disease and stroke.
