GoVision has completed a multi-pronged, three-month project upgrading the LED video displays at Sutter Health Park in Sacramento, California.
The park is a Triple-A stadium that will accommodate the Athletics, a Major League Baseball team, for the next three years, according to a press release.
Sutter Health Park has been the home of the Triple-A Sacramento River Cats since the ballpark opened in 2000. A quarter-century later, the venue has undergone a comprehensive upgrade to accommodate the arrival of the Athletics as the team awaits the unveiling of a new home in Las Vegas.
Argyle, Texas-based GoVision LLC was engaged to update the ballpark’s video displays and the project was done in partnership with Sacramento-based i5LED.
The centerpiece of the project is a state-of-the-art 10mm LED display in right-center field measuring 75 feet by 7 inch wide by 31 feet by 6 inches high.
The screen, built from the ground up, entailed multiple stages — from initial engineering to the construction of new piers, columns and catwalks, followed by final installation.
«This was an extremely complex project from very beginning — which is exactly the kind of challenge our team loves,» GoVision Founder and chairman Chris Curtis said in the release. «Among other essential details, we worked closely with i5LED to make certain that the centerfield display would look great both on TV and in fans’ cell phone photos. That meant the refresh rate of the LED panels had to be precisely designed and calibrated to ensure an unforgettable visual experience for fans in every seat.»
In addition, the GoVision team repurposed the ballpark’s 10-year-old centerfield display into a 195′ wide by 7 foot by 4 inch high left-field ribbon display. This process required technicians to remove the existing screen, reconfigure the cabinets, then reinstall them.
«We went the extra mile on the ribbon display to enable the team to squeeze extra life out of their existing LED products, while still meeting and exceeding the standards expected of a Major League ballpark,» Curtis said in the release. «A job like this is a signature element of GoVision’s heritage in the events business — essentially delivering a first-class product on a tight budget.»
The third component of the massive overhaul is a pair of backstop displays composed of 4mm LED panels and measuring 8 foot by 5 inches wide by 2 foot and 1 inch high. These high-definition screens are primarily used to generate advertising revenue from sponsors.
