The Illinois Senate Executive Committee has advanced Senate Bill 2319, which would bring virtual currency kiosk operators under the regulatory oversight of the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation, according to a KWQC report.
The bill mandates that operators report to the department and pay fees.
«Currently, there are no regulations, no consumer protections, for crypto kiosks in Illinois,» State Senator Laura Ellman told the news outlet. «And this bill establishes those consumer protections, and it also provides industry a predictable setting to not only operate, but also grow here in Illinois.»
While the exact number of cryptocurrency kiosks statewide is unknown, there are at least seven Bitcoin ATMs in the Quad Cities region.
