The New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation and the Office of General Services have installed interactive video kiosks at the New York State Capitol and Empire State Plaza to mark the 250th anniversary of the American Revolution, according to an Adirondak Almanac report.
The kiosks are designed to provide an engaging and informative experience, highlighting New York’s significant role in the conflict.
The kiosks feature 37 short videos, digital displays of 1,000 items including artifacts, maps and articles, and utilize the Parks’ «Our Whole History» initiative to present diverse viewpoints and a more inclusive narrative of the American Revolution. The goal is to educate the public about New York State historic sites and other locations connected to this pivotal period in American history.
In addition to the Capitol and Empire State Plaza, kiosks are being installed at 16 state parks and historic sites with ties to the American Revolution, including Senate House State Historic Site, Stony Point State Historic Site and Fort Niagara State Historic Site, among others.
This initiative supports the state’s 250th Commemoration Commission, which aims to coordinate a comprehensive commemoration through programming, exhibits, educational standards, heritage tourism and scholarly research.
The commission seeks to foster public interest in the history and values of the American Revolution.
