Genesee County is set to introduce a kiosk-powered guest registration and queuing system in its new downtown Flint office complex, scheduled to open in early June, according to an M Live report. The Genesee County Board of Commissioners gave initial approval to a $78,818 contract with SHI for the system, which includes four touch-screen kiosks and two years of subscription fees.
The system aims to manage the expected 3,000 weekly visitors to the 10-story building, which will house the county Health Department, Clerk-Register of Deeds office, Senior Services Department and Veterans Services Department. Officials anticipate reduced wait times and increased efficiency.
«This is a system similar to what the Secretary of State uses with the added dimension of many destinations,» Mike Dawisha, chief information officer for the county, told the news outlet. «Currently, residents visiting county offices experience random wait times, lack of transparency in queue status, and inconsistent service prioritization. These inefficiencies can lead to frustration, reduce staff productivity, and create bottlenecks in service delivery.»
In a related move, the board also approved a $168,000 annual contract for 400 parking spaces in the Flint Downtown Development Authority’s Riverfront and Rutherford parking ramps. The county purchased the office tower in 2021 and has been renovating it at an estimated total cost of $40 million.
