LG Electronics USA has launched a suite of accessible smart home technologies designed to improve usability for individuals with disabilities and seniors, according to a press release. Key innovations include AI-driven features and modular accessory systems.
A central advancement is the introduction of a commercial kiosk with dynamic height adjustment, catering to wheelchair users. This kiosk incorporates tactile keypads to enhance accessibility for visually impaired individuals.
LG’s «ThinQ ON» platform utilizes AI to enable voice-controlled operation of home appliances, allowing for hands-free interaction. This feature is particularly beneficial for users with limited mobility.
For visual accessibility, LG showcased advanced features within its OLED TVs. «Voice Menu Reading» provides audio descriptions of on-screen menus, while «Simultaneous Listening with Hearing Aids and Speakers» allows for personalized audio output, accommodating users with varying hearing needs.
The «LG Comfort Kit» represents a modular approach to appliance accessibility. This system features attachable and detachable accessories, such as easy-grip handles for laundry appliance doors and detergent drawers, and simplified control dials for washing machines. These accessories are designed to enhance usability for individuals with limited strength or dexterity.
LG is also developing sensor-based solutions for its appliances. While details are limited, the company indicated they are working on enhanced environmental awareness for their devices.
These technologies reflect LG’s focus on integrating AI and modular design to create more inclusive and accessible smart home environments.
