Wesco Inc., a convenience store operator in Michigan, is expanding its use of Mashgin’s artificial intelligence self-checkout technology to over 20 locations following a successful pilot program, according to a Convenience Store News report. The Mashgin kiosks utilize computer vision to identify items without barcodes, significantly reducing transaction times.
The pilot program, which involved more than 10 Wesco stores, saw nearly half a million transactions with a median transaction time of 18.7 seconds.
«Our customers have quickly taken to love Mashgin’s machines — and we’ve loved working with them,» Nancy Westgate-Sytsema, co-president of Wesco, told the news outlet. «Both the technology and the team are extremely responsive, exactly what we look for in a technology partner.»
The expansion is facilitated by Mashgin’s integration with Verifone’s Commander system, allowing seamless connection with store systems for payments, loyalty programs and fuel purchases.
