The New Orleans Public Library has unveiled the region’s first library vending machine, according to a press release. Located at NORD’s Desire/Florida Multi-Service Center, the machine allows library card holders to check out books and DVDs for free during NORD facility hours.
«One of the core pillars of our 10-year strategic plan to create a library lifestyle for all New Orleanians is to open doors through reimagining our spaces, which is exactly what this collaboration with NORD allows us to do,» Emily Painton, city librarian and executive director of NOPL, said in the release. «We can’t have a library in every neighborhood, but this technology removes a barrier by bringing library services to an underserved area.»
The vending machine offers a diverse selection of over 200 titles for children, teens and adults. Popular picks include Disney’s «Encanto» and «Moana» alongside best-selling novels like «Mexican Gothic» and «A Court of Thorns and Roses.»
