Interactive kiosks are being installed throughout downtown San Diego to improve wayfinding and provide information to residents and visitors, according to a KPBS report.
The dual-sided digital touchscreens will offer real-time updates on local businesses, landmarks and transportation options.
San Diego Mayor Todd Gloria emphasized the dual purpose of these kiosks, telling the news outlet, «This is also going to help with our city’s need to be disaster prepared.» In addition to wayfinding, the kiosks will serve as a platform for emergency alerts and public safety information.
The IKEs are funded through advertising revenue, with a portion of the proceeds benefiting the city and the Downtown San Diego Partnership. These kiosks are expected to enhance the overall visitor experience and contribute to the economic vitality of downtown San Diego.
