Students and staff at Lafayette College in Easton, Pennsylvania can now recycle beverage containers with the introduction of a reverse vending machine in the Farinon Student Center atrium, according to the school’s website.

The machine from Atlas RVM Systems was installed in partnership between Lafayette’s office of sustainability, its foodservice provider, Bon Appetit and Abarta Coca-Cola. The machine accepts aluminum cans and plastic bottles.

The machine’s sensor technology allows it to identify recyclables through the opening to the conveyor belt. Once the machine accepts a container, it crushes it, reduces its size, lmiting how often the machine must be serviced.

The machine’s interactive screen displays promotions and lets students compete for prizes for their participation in recycling.
