The British Home Office, a ministerial department of the U.K. responsible for immigration and security, is seeking input from biometrics companies that can provide self-service kiosks, phone apps or both for visitor and immigration vetting, according to a biometricsupdate.com report.
The government wants to assess biometrics sensors, optical-character-recognition systems and print readers to create a single identity verification system for people seeking to travel to the U.K.
The department ran biometric self enrollment feasibility trials in November and December to assess the maturity of industry capabilities, according to a summary on its website.
The department found fingerprint kiosk software that can detect biometric presentation attacks requires more research.
Participants in the initial trial included VFS Global, Blue Biometrics, Idemia, iProov, Unisys, FaceTec, Gambit, Regula Forensics, GBG, NEC subsidiary Northgate Public Services, Spidx, Teleperformance Contact, Trust Stamp and Thales.
