Customer reviews have been mixed to the wayfinding kiosks Houston is installing in partnership with IKE Smart City, according to a report in The Leader.

The kiosks provide free Wi-Fi within a radius of 75 feet and offer electronic billboards, public information, tour guides and maps that generate revenue for the city.

One local business owner welcomed the kiosks, seeing them as a benefit to businesses and customers.

Passersby offered mixed reviews, including one man who sees them as an eyesore.

Among the 17 kiosks installed as of Monday, 13 have been in place for at least a month and have been used close to 5,400 times in the last 30 days, with users exploring three different applications on average during each session.

The most-utilized apps have included «Eat + Drink,» «Get Around» and «Photobooth.»
