On Saturday, Aramark Sports + Entertainment and Capital One Arena will bring the latest in foodservice innovation to fans during the Stanley Cup Playoffs with a baked goods, mobile «smart store» delivery robot developed by Silicon Valley startup Tortoise, according to a press release.
The delivery cart will rove the lower concourse of Capital One Arena in Washington, D.C. with fresh baked goods as the Capitals host the Florida Panthers for Game 3 of the First Round series.
This will mark Tortoise’s launch at an NHL game.
Tortoise totes itself as «the world’s first robotic remote-controlled store-on-wheels» which can travel up to four miles per hour. Dubbed «Treat Me,» the robot will be filled with baked good boxes containing favorites from Sidekick Bakery and Ted’s Bulletin.
To purchase the treats, guests will tap their credit card, Apple or Google Pay on the bot’s lid where it will unlock and allow the consumer to choose their baked goods box all while audio messages are played to guide the guest through the experience. AI-powered technology will recognize their selection and complete the purchase.
