California is finalizing its request this week to secure $384 million in federal funds to subsidize the installation of EV charging stations over the next eight years, according to a report in The Orange County Register.

Will Arnold, a spokesman for the state transportation department, said the subsidy is expected to cover up to 80% of costs for creating or upgrading EV chargers along designated roadways.

The state wants to have 250,000 shared EV chargers in place by 2025. By 2030 the state is expected to need 1.2 million stations.

Currently, it has close to 80,000 chargers for shared or public use such as at office buildings and apartments.
